Recycling Pine Furniture

Pine is a very popular wood for any style of furniture.  It is natural, looks beautiful and can last a lifetime.  However, if you are looking for a new item to replace an old one, or feel that you piece of pine furniture is looking a little worn, you might want to consider recycling it.

It is incredibly easy to modernise, re-invent and  freshen up any item of pine furniture.  Although the actual wood may last many years, its colour will not.  You may start to notice that the edges begin to become worn and the overall colour starts to look faded from sun light and general everyday use.

It can also begin to look worn from general cleaning and dusting.  But instead of disposing of this item and replacing it with a new one, why not save your money, and your beautiful piece of furniture by recycling it.

The first this you will need to do is remove an draws from the cabinet and place them on the floor.  Next you can use a cement scraper to remove the old coating being careful not to damage the wood under the surface.

You should then use a clean rag and some stripper to remove the remaining bits of wood coating carefully.  Finally use some sandpaper to ensure the surface is smooth and the wood isn’t split or damaged.  Your item of furniture is now ready for a fresh coat of varnish or wood stain.

If you want a change however, it is also worth considering painting the pine wood to give it a different appearance entirely.  This can easily be done without causing any harm to the wood itself.  And is definitely cheaper and more economically friendly than getting rid of the old and replacing it with the new.
