Creating Your Own Piece

For anyone looking to create their own piece of wooden furniture for their home, pine wood is a firm favourite for furniture makers due to the fact that it is relatively cheap to purchase, and it is one of the easiest woods to work with.

However if you're not experienced in crafting your own furniture, then you might want to consider purchasing an unfinished piece of pine furniture that needs to be completed.

This is certainly the cheapest and easiest option when crafting your own piece of pine furniture.  Having said that however, it can be difficult to complete a partially completed piece of pine furniture.  So follow these simple instructions and you will be well on your way to having the perfect piece of pine furniture that you have lovingly created yourself.

The first thing you need to do is start by sanding down the wood.  This is usually the first stage to any project such as this, however it is important that you don't over sand the wood as this can damage and weaken it.

This is particularly important as pine wood is a soft wood and can be easily over sanded, so spend some time on this and don't rush through it in your eagerness.  It is also important to sand in the direction of the grain and not against it as this can easily damage the wood.

After you have sanded the wood, you will need to wash it in a wash coat to ensure that when you varnish it, the varnish is absorbed evenly by the wood. When staining the pine it may be easier to use a gel stain that is considered to be much easier to use and apply.
